We've been having various finches a other small guys coming to visit our drinking pan. During this dry spell there have been more than usual. As far as squirrels, I put out unsalted pistachios as I believe we should feed the local red tailed hawks. We were out several weeks ago, checking out local canoe launch sites, and we heard a red bellied woodpecker drumming. Identified with the help of a smartphone app. We never actually saw it. That bird was loud as I heard it without my hearing aids. The other day, Lady Hillary and I happened to see a pair of Baltimore Orioles for the first time in our neighborhood [central NJ].
