The Earl Scruggs version of Reuben is played in D tuning on the banjo, which gives the song a very distinctive sound. To this day, it is the only banjo tune I can play in D tuning. The Foghorn String Band did a most rowdy version of Reuben’s Train. This can be viewed in YouTube. The performance of bass player Nadine is totally worth watching.
