GUEST,jim bainbridge musical style evolvement (9) RE: musical style evolvement 07 Jul 21

If I can help, in the late 60s, Billy Pigg did a folk club night at the Marsden Inn in South Shields. I think it was the only club he ever did, but certainly the first, and he passed away in 1968. He was a great friend of Hebburn-born Irish piccolo champion John Doonan, and also Foster Charlton, a piper himself & stalwart of the Northumbrian Pipers' Society, and the three often played together.
Billy Pigg was always very reluctant to play outside his home, but John Doonan was a regular visitor and supporter of our club at Marsden, and said he could persuade him to do a night, as a trio with John and Foster. He did this & a great night of music ensued.

Tony Wilson, a Stoke man living n Tyneside recorded the night (on 1960s equipment in a lively club!). Gateshead Counil set up a traditional music archive many years back (it's now closed) but it is still available via the library website- the archive within is entitled FARNE and on there, you'll find plenty of material from Northumberland and Durham., including via the searchbox, the recording made by Tony Wilson that night-   Billy Pigg, John Doonan & Foster Charlton (on fiddle on this recording)- including the tune in question.
