I still have a few longhand written reports from those days in my cupboard, they make a nice keepsake! I did have a calculator, and (later in the piece) access to a photocopier, to avoid those carbon copies when I eventually did acquire a typewriter to type my draft of a thesis, 7 years later - although I did hand my rough typescript (with squiggles and crossings out) to a proper typist to produce the "fair copy"!
