GUEST,Nick Dow A Secret Stream (Vol 1) New Book Nick Dow (66* d) RE: ASecret Stream (Vol 1) New Book Nick Dow 05 Aug 21

I am presenting another workshop on Weds 25th at 4-30 pm, at Whitby Festival online.
I have just received some rather excellent paragraphs from Walter and Mary Lee, to introduce the book. Since she sends her good wishes to all readers, I have included them for you.

Our good friend Nick Dow is the author of this book, my husband and myself are of true Romany stock, and we are very pleased that Nick has compiled this book of songs, which were noted down in late Victorian and Edwardian times.
Some of these songs have been handed down through our families for generations! we would sing these songs spontaneously at any given time, when our families got together, and sure enough somebody would pull one of the old (long forgotten) songs out of the hat, and it would take us right back in time!
It is, surely, very good that these songs will be preserved for posterity, as it would be a great loss to our culture if they were forgotten.
In my family there were singers, musicians and dancers, some played fiddle, some guitar, some accordion and spoons. They would step dance on any piece of board the could find. They made their own entertainment, through very hard times, and good times too.
I hope those who read this book will gain some insight into our culture. Time and space don’t allow me to elaborate further, however enjoy your read, and remember music brings us all together.
Walter and Mary Lee
