In the eighties, The Edinburgh Folk Club met at The (old) Pleasance Cabaret Bar for a few months. That was even before the one which preceded the recent version. The room charge was quite high but there was an arrangement that we would get a refund or even have the charges waived if the bar takings justified it. So, we were in a position where we had to encourage everyone to use the bar and drink.. While this suited me at the time, most members drank in moderation or just bought one or two soft drinks. Suffice to say, we very rarely qualified for a refund. :-(
