Today by chance I came across the original songbook by Milton Allen. Interesting in that the Copyright was strictly copyrighted to Milton Allen then, as an afterthought he has handwritten in brackets 'Mr A Lambert' and signed the addition. The book entitled 'Songs of the Pendle Country' was published by Joshua Duckworth Ltd of Colne, Lancashire. There is no publication date. However I can confirm that the music bears no relation to the version we all recognise as being sung by the Taverners. One would assume, therefore, that the later version was indeed written by Brian Osborne.
