Correct me if my thinking is wrong. Buchan as a place name and Buchan as a clan name all are found in and around Aberdeen. Lord Salton (Saulton Saltoun) also claims a historical connection to Aberdeen. Aberdeen claims a good bit of sea coast. So when the singer, storyteller sings, Buchan is Bonny and there lives my love it isn't a stretch to think she is starting the song by saying her love comes from a nice place in the North East coast of Scotland somewhere between Peterhead and Dundee. American songs are no easier to search out even if I do know my own brand of English a little better. Don
