Two of the winners, Iona Fyfe and Kim Carnie, are some of my favourite singers, and I'm happy for them and I'm sure the awards will strengthen their careers.

But the whole event is just about the music industry celebrating itself. Look at the Hands Up for Trad article linked above. More than two thirds of it is about the event's sponsors blathering about how great they are. The actual winners of the awards are shown in a short list at the end, almost like they don't matter.
