The fatal flaw in that method is assuming going from point a to point b is a preferred straight line.
If that goal is incorrect from the git go you crash.
Maybe you needed to go from point b to point q in a curved route.


<YEABUT> always assuming the commutative law applies </YEABUT>

A to B (or Q) is not automatically the same as (Q or) B to A - it might be downhill (or up!)
Which puts a different slant...........................
on it.

When trying to find the best coefficients for a non-canonical digital filter (as you do) with a computer program (in FORTRAN since you ask) I could never decide if the best fit was just a blind dip with better ones lurking - and over which hump? After 30+ years it still bugs me.
