rich-joy 'Battleground Melbourne' documentary (2) 'Battleground Melbourne' documentary 15 Jan 22

This is the link to the recent Documentary by Topher Field : “BATTLEGROUND MELBOURNE” which detailed just some of the discord Down Under in these Covideous Times.

Please Note that it is definitely NOT my intent to open this thread to encourage ‘Catters to engage in Pro-Vax/Anti-Vax vitriol, nor inflammatory arguments about the whole global Covid phenomenon.
Those things, God knows, could (and will) fill many many books.

BUT, I consider this (in my most humble of opinions), to be probably the most important event in Australian history since the much-vaunted Eureka Stockade in 1854, which of course, also took place in Victoria.

Even though public protests happened - and are still happening - all over Oz, Melbournites have so far suffered more and lost more, and their state government, led by a Labor premier, no less!! (Dan Andrews),
displayed the most authoritarian and draconian behaviour against its citizens, whilst encouraging the Police Force to react violently and reprehensively.
Govts may come and go at the ballot box, but the reputation of Victoria Police will not improve so “easily”.

The Laws which Dan Andrews brought in have been described as making any “3rd world” dictator proud : https://www.lawyersweekly.com.au/biglaw/32886-bar-association-labels-vic-s-new-pandemic-legislation-appalling

And all this in Melbourne, the city until recently, most often voted “The World’s Most Liveable City”……..

Here is the write-up by Topher Field (director) :
“ Battleground Melbourne tells the story of the Fall of the World's Most Liveable City, through the eyes of those who risked everything to save it. We've been called every name you can imagine, the media, politicians, and the 'I stand with Dan' crowd have used every baseless slur you can imagine, and probably many you can't, to try and shame us and shut us down. And Victoria Police went on an 18 month rampage of repression, unlawful arrests, and widespread intimidation in order to silence us. So who are we? And given all we were up against, how did we grow from just 70 people in April 2020, to hundreds of thousands in the biggest political events in Australian history in November 2021? This is our story, told through our eyes. Battleground Melbourne is our reply to the lies, half truths, slurs, and lazy attacks that we have endured for the last 2 years. This is our story. The story of ordinary people doing extraordinary things and taking extreme risks to stand for what we believe in. You may not agree with us, you may not even like us, but you can't claim to know who we are until you've watched Battleground Melbourne.”

Keep in mind that, as with any documentary, there is SO MUCH MORE material that time did not permit showing.

I admit that I don’t really have the words to write this properly (plus, I have been 'safe' in a rural Queensland bubble), but I felt it important (considering the MSM’s skewed ‘censorship’ nowadays),
to at least start documenting the social upheavals for future folk historians.

At present there are these two songs that were written for the film, but no doubt there are many more which will eventually come to light – and more still, that will be written :

“LIONS” (Mandy Wragg) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhVp0aiDr4E
“RISE UP” (Jack Jones & Reggie Bowman) : still to be uploaded to YT

R-J (Down Under)

PS    Amongst the many philosophical quotes that have been displayed on-line in these contentious Times, this pertinent observation from the late Clive James is VERY popular :
The problem with Australians is not that so many of them are descended from convicts, but that so many are descended from prison officers.
