My transcription from the recording on the Internet Archive. There are some doubtful phrases: HIGHWAY 101 As recorded by Jimmy McCracklin (with Jimmy Nichols on piano) on Globe 104 (1945) Have you ever been to Memphis? One-Oh-One Highway, the longest highway in the world, (2x) Runs all the way to New York City, and it ain’t got a girl. I’m gon’ make some money, up on Highway One-Oh-One. (yes, yes) (2x) When I find a new still, Lord, we gon’ have some. - - - I don’t know which highway this song refers to. U.S. Route 101 is on the west coast. Several states on the east coast have state and county highways numbered 101, but I don’t see how they could link up to be “the longest highway in the world.” If anyone wants to investigate further, see Wikipedia’s List of highways numbered 101.
