The blues is a cry of African-American pain. Without pain, there is no healing. Singing is therapeutic in hard times. Islam is about religion. Some would say that the blues is irreligious. The blues is akin to Irish "keening" or "wailing" as in certain other cultures. Melismas are heard in many parts of the world. Blues is also like Cante Hondo in Flamenco but it isn't. It grew up in the US. It's attributable to the Black experience in America.
