Problem with emoticons is there is no consistent relationship between the image and the tone or subtext they re trying to express. For instance their is no standard emoticon for irony, nor is there an emoticon to represent the degree: humorous light satire, biting sarcasm, closer to the truth than you think, reading between the lines, mirroring, taking a persons argument to an extreme, exaggerating contradictions and fallacies etc etc. Sometimes I have to cover my back to keep myself out of jail by adding (irony).
