if you do a search you will find loads of recordings online of a song called "The Chapel Gate of Cooraclare". I don't know how old it is or whether the author is known. In the song an emigrant looks back on younger days in Cooraclare, and although it isn't expressly about religion you get a sense of how central the church was to the community.
