What would really surprise me is finding equations in Faust. For completeness, and to prevent any going off the rails: extelligence is merely (!) that part of human understanding which is external to humans: books, computers and other repositories of information. I first came across it in The Science of Discworld, but that doesn't invalidate the concept (far from it).
