There seems to be some confusion about "lotus." It's a reference to the lotus-eaters, from the Odyssey, and later from Alfred Tennyson. They lie at peace and sleep and dream and forget about the cares of the world. So "I have breathed too long, too deep, the lotus in the air" means the place made him very, very happy. |
