If you might like radio, as well as TV, and can access the BBC archive on Iplayer then there are several series by a guy called Melvyn Bragg which are real 'food for the brain'. The one I remember was called 'In Our Time'. These were half hour discussion programs. He chaired a panel who were experts on the chosen subject. Amazing programs on a wide ranging set of subjects from Philosophy, Arts and Science. There were other series as well. One I think was about language and on TV he had a series called 'The South Bank Show'. If you can find them you might like them.
