Many, many summers ago my friend Pete and I were bumming around Colorado, doing some rock climbing and hiking and looking for fun. One night we were camped by a lake, I think it was Arapahoe Bay, and we heard some beautiful sounds drifting across the water so we hopped in a canoe with a couple of other campers and took a nerve-racking paddle across the lake in the over-crowded boat and as we drew near we beheld a bunch of fellow freaks sitting around a huge fire singing "Ripple" with some lovely female voices taking the high parts. We strummed guitars and sang all night and it went on for two more days until we drifted away. A few years later I had a daughter with an Oregon girl I met there who's become a lifelong friend.
