I got to vote in that special election. Alaska has been an early adopter of Ranked Choice Voting which was used for the special election for a 'fill-in' candidate to finish Don Young's term, and this will naturally lead to an election for a Congressional term in November. I have not heard of Palin crying foul as of yet. What happened was two conservative candidates splitting the vote and enabling Peltola to win. It is not the first time this has happened. Over ten years ago we had a municipal election where we voted that if a multi-candidate mayoral election didn't have a majority (50% or more) winner, if the leading candidate had 45% or better he/she would be the declared winner. Since that vote was effective immediately we got a Democratic winner who eventually went on for a (single) term in the Senate. There was a very good public radio background article about Mary Peltola which mentioned that she had 'bonded' with Palin in State government went both were pregnant while in office. Palin has had way more invective to and from the other conservative candidate in this race, Nick Begich. We've got interesting and good quality Local Public Radio in Alaska.
