Reading the title of this thread I couldn't help but think of the weights and measures mnemonic: "A pint is a pound the whole world round." Which is very US centric where a pint is 16 fluid ounces. Over here, in UK, "A pint of water weighs a pound and a quarter". (20 fl oz)
