Tenterden Folk Festival 2022

Plans are going well for Tenterden Folk Festival 2022 which will run for four days from Thursday 29th September to Sunday 2nd October.

We are working on fundraising and all the logistics that go on behind the scemnes. The first guests have been booked and announced and more are being added over the spring. Invitations are being sent out to Morris sides and display teams. Plans for the free events on the Recreation Ground including the crafts and stalls marquee and free music stage are at an advanced stage. We already have an exciting selection of stalls booked in ranging from hand made corn dollies, jewelry, woodturning, garden plants, leather work and other artisan crafts to musical instruments and artwork. More stalls will be added through to late September.

Venues for this year’s festival will include most, if not all, of our usual venues, but we will again be making more use of the larger halls such as the Tenterden Club and Town Hall as we can allow the audience and artists more space. We plan to move some events to St Mildred’s Church which is a lovely venue and will allow more space for social distancing if needed. We are planning to include a mix of events including concerts, barn dance, workshops, meet the guests, sing-a-rounds, music sessions, crafts and stalls, dance displays, procession, etc. The festival campsite will be in a field near the Town Centre Railway Station.

Tickets are already on sale and will be on sale from the festival box office over the long weekend, where we will be able to accept payment by cash, cheque or card.

Foot Down

Concerts:

Festival guests can be seen at our main concert venues throughout the extended weekend. This year these include the Tenterden Club, Town Hall and St Mildred’s Church. Check the map to locate all the venues.

Song and music sessions:

The numerous friendly and informal sing-a-rounds and song and music sessions are, for many, one of the highlights of the Festival. Government rules and regulations permitting, sessions will take place in various pubs so there is sure to be one that suits your taste or mood. Come along and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere even if you do not want to sing or play.

Workshops and meet the guest sessions:

The Festival also offers the opportunity to attend other events which may offer the chance to participate, ask a few questions or just sit and listen, and informal talks on folk related topics.

Dance displays:

After the enforced Covid 19 break the Festival expects to attract Morris sides and dance display teams from far and wide, including most of the regular teams and some new ones. They will take to the streets of the town centre on Saturday and Sunday together with other street entertainers. Dancers include local Morris sides from Kent and Sussex as well as visiting teams from further afield. Dance styles will include Cotswold, Border, Molly, Clog and Garland, as well as Slovakian, Bulgarian, Appalachian and other international traditions and styles.

Procession:

The popular procession on Saturday will, this year, start from near the War Memorial in the High Street at 2:30 p.m. The procession continues through the town centre to finish on the Recreation Ground by the marquees.

Free events on The Recreation Ground:

The Recreation Ground is the venue for the craft fair and stalls, free music stage, dance stage and other free events. There will be more stalls in the high Steet.
