GUEST,Jerome Clark ADD: Seven Bridges Road (Steve Young) (9) RE: Lyr Req: Seven Bridges Road 15 Nov 22

The late Steve Young, whose parents were Georgia sharecroppers, wrote a host of memorable songs in a country-folk vein, with a voice that would have served him well if he had elected to be a blue-eyed soul singer. I'm surprised that only one contributor to this thread besides me knows his name. "Seven Bridges Road" is an early
number from his rich catalog, and I've yet to hear a version that so much as approaches his.

He was also a notable interpreter of others' songs, from Bob Dylan to Utah Phillips to Johnny Horton to Townes Van Zandt to tradition. As often as not, his interpretations were improvements on the originals. An English roots-reissue label, Ace, released "Seven Bridges Road: The Complete Recordings" in 2017. It's a place to start and to discover gems such as "Long Way to Hollywood," "Many Rivers," and "Montgomery in the Rain."
