As a kid, I drank soda pop... but mostly referred to brand names-- mostly Pepsi. I guess the most common short form I heard was pop. Movies.. films? shrug I would have understood either, but 'movies' was the more popular word. There's a lot more U.K./U.S.A. words that bother me than those.
