Geoff Kaufman has advised me that Don Sineti died the other day. He was a member of Mystic Seaport's chantey group and was renowned for both his prodigious repertoire and powerful voice. His rendition of "Rolling Down to Old Maui" set the standard for all other performers.
It was dangerous to stand too close to him when he was projecting as his voice could damage hearing [as my tinnitus still attests]. I have not seen an obituary posted.
Geoff has advised me that there will be a memorial get-together in the Spring.
