It isn't that taste is mostly smell, it is that taste and smell are needed to produce FLAVOR. Try this with an artificial flavor like cherry koolaid: take a breath, take a drink without breathing, you will taste sweetness. Swallow, then exhale. Then, you will get the cherry flavor. Great book on the natural history of the senses.

Back to the Main Forum Page
