Origin: Way Down in Shawneetown lyric and
much of the Americana/folklore behind: Mike Fink.


Unrelated: The Dictionary of High and Colloquial Malayalim and English dedicated by permission to His Highness the Rajah of Travancore by Benjamin Bailey in 1846 has an entry for “boat song.”
