The death has taken place of long-time Midwest Radio broadcaster Seamus Duffy from Aghamore.

Seamus passed away in hospital yesterday at the age of 91, following an illness.

He was one of Ireland's oldest broadcasters, as well as former All-Ireland winning Sean Nós singer, traditional musician and composer.

A primary school teacher by trade and former principal of Aghamore National School, Seamus presented his Sunday night traditional music show "Fleadh Cheoil" on Midwest Radio since the radio station opened in 1989, and up until the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He was also a fiddle player and was a well-known Sean Nós singer winning an all-Ireland title back in the 1950's.

He composed a number of songs - such as The Ballad of Michael Coleman and The Ballad of Mick Flanagan - and was involved in Comhlatas Ceolteoirí Eireann for most of his life.

Seamus was pre-deceased by his sons Liam and Diarmuid.

He's survived by his wife Bríd, sons Seamus, Padraig, Séan and Ciarán, brothers, sisters and extended family.

His remains will repose at the home of his son and daughter-in-law Séan & Carol Duffy on Church Road, Aghamore this evening from 3-7pm.

His Funeral Mass takes place tomorrow at 2 o'clock in St Joseph's Church, Aghamore with burial in the local cemetery.

His Funeral Mass will be live streamed on Murphy O'Brien funeral directors Facebook page.

The management and staff at Midwest Radio would like to extend sincere condolences to Seamus's family and friends on his passing.

Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. [may his soul be with God]
