One-off, all-star style wrecking crews were a thing at Capitol from its beginning. Leon Jerry “Jack” Guthrie's 1940s version were The Oklahomans; all better known than their front man who didn't actually have a band to call his own. Producer/bassist Cliffie Stone was the former music director at KFVD when & where the Jack & Woody act caught their first big break.

Haggard's lot were billed as The Strangers. The roll call hangs down to your shins.
