I was surprised to read in wikipedia that "To be considered a carillon, a minimum of 23 bells are needed; otherwise, it is called a chime." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carillon https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chime_(bell_instrument) I come from a family of bell ringers and my father was a Ringing Master, though I haven't rung a church bell since I was about 10. ISTR we referred to any setup whereby you could pull a set of ropes or thump a wooden 'keyboard' with your fists to chime ringable bells with hammers as a carillon. (Actually, we called it a 'carillion' - and I still do.)
