Ain’t Got the Blues Blues
David Beede (Florida dulcimer artist)
(adapted slightly by R. Pollay for CANCON and avoiding dulcimer reference)

I am the kind happy most of the time
You know I very rarely get the blues.
I never been a boozer or a three time loser
Guess I never really paid my dues.
I’m your everyday guy. I wear your everyday tie
and bring home your everyday pay.
And the only thing that’s wrong is when I go to write a song
I ain’t got anythin’ to say.

©        I got them ain’t got the blues blues
I got the “never paid my dues” blues
Ain’t got no holes in my shoes blues . . . Today!

My momma never beat me. My woman don’t mistreat me.
I’ve never had to feel much pain.
I’m just an old toker, a bit of a joker
Ain’t got too much cause to complain.
Tax Canada (The IRS) believes me. My dealer don’t deceive me.
I never had to serve no time.
I got a ceiling and a floor. The sun shines on my back door
and I have never had to beg for a dime.

I got them “never paid my dues” blues
ain’t got no holes in my shoes blues ... Today

I get past the color bar and don’t play no slide guitar.
So a quarter tone is hard to find.
How I can I generate impressions with my chord progressions
There so square, not your hip and cool kind.
I’m your everyday guy. I wear your everyday tie
I bring home your everyday pay
The only thing wrong is when I go to write a song
I ain’t got anything to say.
