Sorry about this, especially as I know little or nothing about Labor Day, but I can't hear the expression without thinking of that famous episode of Married With Children in which Al Bundy takes his wife Peggy and his execrable offspring Bud and Kelly for a drive on Labor Day, only to be caught in a 50-mile traffic snarl-up on the Chicago freeway. The whole episode has them sitting there motionless as they embark on an emotional rollercoaster, even involving fellow stranded motorists. Classic!
