I would really like to think that Richard Hovenden's story was real.
I am writing a book about my Hovenden family history and would love to put him in it but even the Regimental Museum cannot confirm that he even existed.
Quite a few Hovendens were indeed military men from the 15th century onwards and one was Captain Richard Hovenden who served with Banastre Tarleton in the American Revolution.
