GUEST,henryp Any October Songs? (320* d) RE: Any October Songs? 02 Oct 23

Work began on Empress of Britain on 28 November 1928 when the plates of her keel were laid at John Brown & Co, Clydebank, Scotland. She was launched on 11 June 1930 by the Prince of Wales.
In her time Empress of Britain was the largest, fastest and most luxurious ship between the United Kingdom and Canada, and the largest ship in the Canadian Pacific fleet.
She was torpedoed on 28 October 1940 by U-32 and sank. At 42,348 GRT she was the largest liner lost in the Second World War and the largest ship sunk by a U-boat. Wikipedia

THE SONG OF THE CLYDE is a song by R.Y. Bell and Ian Gourley. Popularised by Kenneth McKellar, it is an affectionate tribute to the River Clyde.

But from Glasgow to Greenock, in towns on each side,
The hammers' "ding-dong" is the song of the Clyde.

'Tis here that the sea-going liners are born:
But, unlike the salmon, they seldom return.
