GUEST,Holly Tannen Songs at Occidental Music Day June 1st (1) Songs at Occidental Music Day June 1st 19 Apr 24

Hullo Mudcatters!

I hope it’s appropriate to send this. I had so much fun talking about the history of the dulcimer at year’s Music and Dance Day that I’ve volunteered to help organize it this year.

There will be workshops in English traditional songs, sea shanties with Jim Partridge, Cuban and Puerto Rican songs with Leslie and Michael Hubbert,Irish song repertoire with Shay Black, and Hawaiian songs with Gary Sugiyama. Sophia Zimmerman will give a class and private coaching on unlocking your voice. I’ll lead a Song Circle, and give a talk on “The True Story of Frankie and Johnnie (or Albert)“ - incorporating information from Digitrad threads on the song.

Occidentally,

Holly Tannen
Folklorist and song specialist

Have you ever seen people having fun singing, dancing and playing music, and wished you could do that?

You can. On Saturday, June 1st, more than twenty musicians from around the world will show you how to play Scottish and Turkish fiddle, Celtic and Malian harp, drums, autoharp, mandolin, ukelele, fingerstyle and Django jazz guitar. There’ll be English, Irish, Cuban, and Puerto Rican singing, and coaching on unlocking your voice. Demonstrations of Bulgarian instruments, Latin rhythms, and Native American flute, workshops on West African, Balkan and Salsa dancing, Irish, Bluegrass and old-timey jams…or you can sit and listen.

This full day of world music, from 10 am to 9 pm, will take place at the Occidental Center for the Arts, 25 minutes west of Santa Rosa. Fresh organic food, free parking, accessible indoor and outdoor venues.
