Postscript; Allan Taylor's Ph.D. is called “Song, Song writing and the Songwriter” It was the first time that a full-time professional musician/songwriter had done such a study, using empirical knowledge as a basis for an academic thesis. It was partly written in hotel rooms throughout the world (mostly Germany, Italy, Denmark and New Zealand) and finished during a long period of seclusion in Yorkshire. Allan Taylor's supervising professors for his Ph.D. were Professor John Blacking, renowned Social Anthropologist, Musicologist and Ethnomusicologist and Dr. Margaret Bennett (School of Scottish Studies, Edinburgh). ?Margaret Bennet, Scottish Folklorist, Award-Winning Author, and Singer gave the Roy Palmer Lecture for 2024 'Seasonal Customs Beyond Our Borders' as part of the Whitby Folk Week last week. A video of the lecture will be available on YouTube shortly after the event.
