I have a secret about doing this sort of thing. I figure that if it's interesting to me it's probably interesting to others. So I can use presenting a class as a reason to research something and buy books about it. Like a few years ago when I did a class on "Pandemics Of The Past" for this sort of thing. COVID was going on and there was all sorts of talk about whether or not it was real, if it was dangerous, and if so what did people do about such things as plagues in times gone by. I became interested and did some research and put together a presentation on past epidemics. Most of the audience was by Zoom but it seemed to be well received. I got a question about the title of one, "The Recent Crime Wave in Idaho, 1840 to 1910" but I answered that it's just a nanosecond ago in geologic time. AND I got to look up the crooks, and there were a lot of them.
