RTim ADD: The Postman's Knock (17) RE: Lyr Req: The Postman's Knock 25 Sep 24

Hi all -
Postman's Knock is used for a Traditional Morris Dance from the village of Adderbury in Oxfordshire.
The song text and dance steps were collected by Janet Heatly Blunt from William Walton....last Squire of the old village team (ended in 1880's) She collected them in 1916...and it has been used by the revived village team since the mid 1970's..
Sometimes it is just Sung while standing still with Stick Clashing in the chorus...but is also danced and sung at the same time....and that is Not easy to do..
As stated above - it was written by L. M. Thornton, and composed by W. T. Wrighton.

Tim Radford (Squire and Foreman The Adderbury Morris 1974 to 1996)
