In looking at the 2 versions I now have, thanks to kind people here, the verses remain the same, but with different refrains. Like you, Charles I tend to cleave to the songs I learned when I was young. I was fortunate to spend some time with Cilla and her sister Ray in the 1990s, when they spent time in the States. I have fond memories. Ray taught Ballads at Scottish Week at the Augusta Heritage Arts Workshops back then, and she was great fun and a great teacher.
