“6th Month, 1st, Fourth-day.–...As soon as all was quiet I got up and partially dressed, but finding that it was but 3 o'clock turned in again for an hour or two, and was next awoke by the singing of the sailors as they walked round the capstan. I could distinguish the carpenter's voice as chief singer, and the others joined in the chorus; the sound was melodious, and I thought it was time to see what was going on. Upon reaching the deck there was a strange sight indeed, sailors, Greenlanders, and two Greenland girls helping to tighten the hawsers, which had been made fast to the rings in the rocks by which the vessel was moored.” [Penny, Isaac Sharp in Greenland, The British Friend, vol.XXII, no.XI, 1 November 1864]
