Quelquefois les rameurs répétaient ce chanten chœur, ou bien il était joué pardes instruments. – Ce mot désignait aussi le signal que le pilote donnait aux matelots pour passer d'une manœuvre à l'autre. CÉLEUSTE (Mar.). ?e?e?st?? (celeustés). Se disait anciennement de celui qui donnait des ordres sur un navire, au moyen d'un instrument, et de celui qui chantait pour encourager les rameurs.
