From memory:* the first library at Alexandria was torched (poss by accident) by the Romans, but Julius Caesar knew that the way to a girl's heart is through her library, so he said, "Here's one I swiped earlier," and donated it to Cleo. The last destruction came in two phases: first, the Cailiph decreed that anything in it which disagreeed with the Quran be burnt; then he, or a successor, decreed that anything which *agreed* with the Quran was mere duplication. (Does this start to sound familiar?) Oh, and Jealous Dunce is and was about as much a hillbilly as people can become Michelin-star chefs by photoing their dinners. Or did I overlook the smiley there? * No, I wasn't there either.
