GUEST,jim bainbridge Tech: BBC service removal? (53* d) RE: Tech: BBC service removal? 10 Jul 25

Well here we are again. The BBC has AT LAST provided someone to appear on Feedback (Radio 4 this afternoon) to justify the ending of BBC Sounds availability to the WHOLE WORLD outside of the UK. It will happen on July 21st

They promised that ALL BBC radio stations would be available via BBC.com after the end of the service. It will be just that I believe, it doesn't make any difference to me as a Scottish resident, but it seems the new version will be much inferior to Sounds- only available live, unlike Sounds, which was available on catch-up like TV i-player.

THe BBC's original plan was to make ONLY talk stations, 4,5 World etc available on BBC.com, then backed down & included local stations, and also the three 'national' broadcasters' Wales, NI and Scotland. The feedback spokesman for the BBC intimated that the inclusion of only talk radio in their original plan was due to 'rights' issues, meaning the money they pay to broadcast their version of music (including folk shows) on local, NI, Wales & Scotland's 'national stations.   They seem to be OK about the 90pc music Radio 2 middle of the road pap?
That this should be a consideration and a money saver for these charlatans only indicates to me that these three stations and the many local stations have become glorified pop music outlets with a smattering of news and features, much reudced in coverage and quality since local radio was first set up, and deteriorating daily.

Despite the terms of the NI/ROI Good Friday agreement, the Republic of Ireland is, like the rest of the world, having its BBC availability ended. The sheer ignorance and arrogance of the BBC was amply demonstrated by his dismissal of this aspect, It will still be an BBC.com, hesaid& anyway it is available there on FM!!

I would point out that while that may be true of Co Monaghan or Co Donegal, FM is NOT available in most of the Republic, especially in Cork, Kerry etc. AND it is only about a year since the BBC longwave service on Radio 4 was scrapped- this used to be available throughout the island.
I told you what they were at & I was right
