It kind of chose me. I was 19 and living on a communal horse farm in Potomac, MD and one of the girls there had a Martin D-28 that she'd received as a high school graduation present. She was a classical guitar student and never played the thing because the steel strings were too rough on her fingers so she let me use it. I learned a few chords on it and went from there. At the time the Martin was one of the best instruments available so, for better or worse, I was only interested in the good stuff.
