Joe Pass played a Gibson ES-175 on some of his most famous recordings and when I was studying Jazz guitar in the 70's I traded for one, primarily because it was what my hero played but also because it was affordable and back then there weren't too many archtops around that were. I wish I had that one back. Nowadays you can get a good sounding, playable Ibanez for $400.
