Not complaining about your review Dave. Your assumption about the Roud number was quite reasonable in the circumstances. And I also made my own errors looking for the song, again because the correct song didn't turn up in my Roud search and I assumed (incorrectly) the other song which did, despite its name, was the one intended. Only when I could access the Janet blunt collection did I find the correct one.

From the version in The Hosanna, the earliest, it looks like it should really be called Christmas Is Here, but since none of the collectors had a version with the chorus they named it after the start of the first line.

I put a request out to Steve Gardham to see if he had the Sing We All Merrily (the one with Roud 12345) from Stainton, but if you have Paul Davenport's Down Country Lanes, perhaps you could check that. (It's a book I don't have. Should have!). It may turn out to be the same song (the first line looks promising) with a different number from the others, or it may really be a different song altogether. If I find out I'll post the information her!

And for the record, I though your review was really good, both informative and thorough!
