Some time ago I read in a footnote to the song "The Boys of Bedlam" (also "Mad Tom o'Bedlam") that the name of the main character of that song, Mad Maudlin (yes, it *is* one of my favourite songs;-) is derived from the St. Magdalene's House (Hospital?) the institution for women (it said Bedlam was for men only). Then, yesterday, I came across the adjective "maudlin" in one of the threads, and since I didn't know the meaning I checked it in my dictionary and found out what it means. Now I wonder, does this adjective come from the same source as the name "Mad Maudlin"? Anyone there who knows?
