I was quite suprised to see my name on this message board I didn't think any one remembered me from the Folk scene I have been 'retired' for ten years. To answer a few queries The story about the line in the song 'Seven long years..' Sorry but it's not true! I made the whole thing up when I swiped the song from Len Graham in 1979. It was just a bit of stage talk and I like to take the piss out of myself if I can. Somebody asked what happened to me. Well I was very seriously ill (peritonitas) and it finished me off for singing for a long time. My union Equity helped me out and I retrained as a signwriter and joiner. I am still married to my Romany wife Mally, and for a while we travelled around buying and selling at the horse fairs. I have a blues band now days and we play local gigs. I still play the odd folk club gig as well but time does not permit too many. I present the folk and blues shows for B.B.C. radio Lancashire, and when I'm not doing that or signwriting I build Gypsy Caravans! (take a look at my website www.atchintan.freeserve.co.uk. For the people who remember me as being overweight-well I was sorted out by a dietician who found that I have a thing called celiacs disease, and this explains why I was always overweight and feeling rough. Any way enough about me. Thanks for your interest and all the best Nick Dow
