There's more than one song and tune "Dawning of the Day/ Fainne gael an lea". The oldest tune of that title is the one for Robert Burns "My love is like a red, red rose". See the Irish tune titles index on my website. Search for 'dawning' and 'fainne'. [See also Phillips Barry's BFSSNE on the wide-spread use of one of those tunes. Unfortunately the AFS reprint doesn't include either title in the index, so start at page 5 in issue #12.
