A while ago, someone stated that don't fence me in was actually written by someone from montana, which is partially true. The title and several of the western phrases in the refrain were from a book of poems by Montana traffic engineer Robert H. Fletcher, the verses and the music were pure Porter though. It was due to an oversight that on the part of the publishing company that Fletcher god no credit. Fletcher did sue though. Gimbo |
